This section is absolutely vital to understand how thermal intensity is determined. If you cannot determine fire intensity you will not be able to determine how much cooling you need to bring to the fire or how much fuel to remove, etc.  This is a section on fire thermodynamics that is simply not taught anywhere in the wildland fire training programs!
